Online bettors have done well with poker thanks to the top poker betting systems, still the most money is to be made In college football betting

2010 looks like it will be a strange year for college football betting. The most decorated player in college history, Tim Tebow, is gone. USC is suspended from the playoffs. Multiple teams are about to change conferences.

Thankfully we have a conference like the ACC, which is one of the few conferences that should play out normally. Heres my breakdown for 2010 featuring only the top contenders.

BOSTON COLLEGE (8 to 1)

The Eagles arent the flashiest team in the conference but theres reason for optimism in Beantown. Montel Harris could be poised for a big senior season as he tries to up his NFL draft stock. Boston College also plays strong defense; it was 19th in the nation in scoring defense last year.

CLEMSON (12 to 1)

The Tigers are one of the riskiest but most fascinating picks in the ACC. They have a potentially elite quarterback in Kyle Parker, who threw 20 touchdown passes versus 12 picks as a freshman. Unfortunately, hes such a good athlete that the Colorado Rockies drafted him to play baseball for them this past spring. As of press time, he was still undecided. Do you wait until he returns before you make your bet or do you try to get better value while you can and cross your fingers?

FLORIDA STATE (31 to 10)

The Seminoles are the safe pick to win the ACC, but they dont get the full endorsement yet from the sports audio shows. Its true that the offense looks very promising. Christian Ponder is a senior now and he has a veteran O-line protecting him. But Im not totally sold on the defense. The secondary in particular looks like itll be suspect now that Patrick Robinson is gone.

GEORGIA TECH (10 to 1)

The multiple-option offense will sway some bettors but entertaining football isnt always winning football. The Yellow Jackets probably dont play good enough defense to really contend in the ACC. They also lost high-impact players on both sides of the ball Jonathan Dwyer on offense, Derrick Morgan on defense to the NFL.

MIAMI (5 to 2)

Are the Miami Hurricanes ready to take the next step? Jacory Harris made major strides last season and, if he carries his improvements into 2010, could make Miami the most balanced team in the conference. The Canes play great defense and that goes a long way in a conference filled with suspect units.

NORTH CAROLINA (5 to 1)

Could the Tar Heels sneak up on everyone this year? They join Miami as one of the only ACC teams that plays strong D. More importantly, they return a whopping 18 starters nine on offense, nine on defense. Its not insane to consider North Carolina a legit sleeper.

VIRGINIA TECH (9 to 4)

Virginia Tech, like many other ACC teams, has a promising offense but suspect D. Ryan Williams should help them put plenty of points on the board, and VT certainly looked strong down the stretch last year, but how can a defense that returns only three starters keep opponents off the board?

Todays free pick

I think Harris showed last year that he can be as strong as any pivot in the ACC; he threw for 24 scores in 13 games. If he can cut down on his turnovers, Miami should win the ACC, as its stellar D will back the offense up.

Sports Illustrated has come up with what it considers to be the Top 25 Most Hated Teams of all time in sports, and the 2007 Pats, the team that nearly ran the table without a loss before coming up short in the Super Bowl, finished No. 6 on the list.

This is some of what Lee Jenkins wrote in the description of the Pats: ”They were the NFL’s Miss Manners, with delicate sensibilities that could be offended by the most innocuous sources, from a kicker like Mike Vanderjagt to a third receiver such as Freddie Mitchell. Any press-conference comment, no matter how mundane, prompted charges of disrespect. When former Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer mentioned after a game that the Patriots were hampered by injuries (Tedy Bruschi was recovering from a stroke at the time), Tom Brady emerged from his protective casing and barked: “You don’t talk about our team.”Earning the distinction as the most hated, was the 1986 University of Miami team coached by Jimmy Johnson. Here’s the full story right here.

The Road Game Journal feature will detail our excursions to various Miami Hurricanes road games over the years.  Hide the children, because when you wear orange and green to an opposing team’s stadium, well, they tend to not take to it kindly.   The below article details our trip to Philadelphia to see the 2000 Hurricanes take on the Temple Owls (no, that is not a typo).

Miami 45, Temple 17 (2000, Philadelphia, PA): Dude, don’t ask me why I went to this game.  I have a buddy who lives in Philly and had always been meaning to visit him so figured, hey, why not schedule it during a time when the Canes are playing?  So, that’s what I did.  Besides, I was still on a natural high from the Wide Right III win a couple weeks back.  I didn’t expect such gut wrenching euphoria this time, but I figured I’d get a chance to see some of the younger guys in action to see what’s in store for 2001 and 2002.

We get to the old Vet, and it’s a ghost town.  Is a game going on today?  Sure enough, there is.  We didn’t have tickets, so we just got some from some scalpers for 10 bucks each. Later that night I was at a party and some dude was like, “Oh man, why didn’t you tell me you were goin to that game, I have a stack of like 20 tickets at home that went unused.”  Hahaaa.  I guess Temple is not much of a draw in Philly.  The good part is that we were able to mosey on down close to the field since the stadium was practically empty.  It’s kind of weird being in a huge stadium that is like 15% full.  I look over in the section next to me and there is Dan Stubbs, member of the 1987 national championship team.  As for the game, well, it was a yawner but it was cool to see.  No real concern about the outcome like in Wide Right III so you can just kick back, relax, and watch your team roll over this poor excuse for a Division I-A squad.  During one drive, Dorsey threw a picture perfect fade into the end zone.  He released it before the WR (Santana?) broke and it was a dart right on the money.  After that throw, I was like ‘Arm strength? Who says Ken doesn’t have arm strength’ and I thought he’d make it in the pros.  Eh, guess I was wrong.  But, that was a niiiice throw.  My buddy wanted to head out at halftime, but I made him stick it out.  He wasn’t that entertained, but as a Canes fan, you want to see the young guys get in their late to see what’s in store for years ahead.

The entire stadium was virtually silent the whole game.  I literally could have yelled out “Hey Reggie!” and Mr. Wayne would have turned around.  This game remains the only road game mismatch I’ve attended (as most people do, I usually attend the more high profile match ups).  But, there’s something endearing about seeing your team on the road against a real crappy opponent.  You get to see them in a more intimate environment and if you’re a true die hard Canes fan, you get to see most of the back ups and reserves get playing time.  As an added bonus, you don’t have to deal with 80,000+ drunken irate fans hurling expletives at you.  Of course, this requires the program to be on an elite level, as it was in 2000.   There is so much parity in college football these days.  Rutgers, Boise State and TCU are catching up to the powerhouses of old.  I think this stems from a larger pool of talented high school players across the country.  The big schools only have so many scholarships to offer and once those are doled out, there’s still plenty of elite talent remaining for the smaller schools (more so than there were in the ’70s and ’80s).  That being said, there always seems to be a different kind of speed and talent produced in South Florida and it’s just a matter of time before the Hurricanes return to the glory days like this game vs. Temple in 2000.  At least, I hope so.

Canes Pundit >> Road Game Journal – 2000 Miami Hurricanes (45) v ...

Miami will host Notre Dame at Sun Life Stadium on November 25, 2017.

The University of Miami and the University of Notre Dame have officially come to an agreement on the dates and sites of a future three-game football series between the schools.

The series will open with a neutral-site game at Soldier Field in Chicago on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Game two of the series is scheduled four years later, with the Hurricanes traveling to South Bend, Indiana, to face the Fighting Irish on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Notre Dame Stadium. The final game of the contract will be played at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Saturday, November 25, 2017.

“I am excited to announce that the University of Miami has renewed its historic football rivalry with the University of Notre Dame,” UM Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. “Not only is it an outstanding opportunity for both programs, but it is great for the sport of college football.”

The last time the two teams met in Miami, the Hurricanes cruised to a 27-10 win over Notre Dame at the Orange Bowl in 1989. Three of Miami’s wins over Notre Dame came during the regular season of the Hurricanes’ 1983, 1987, and 1989 national championship years. Notre Dame leads the all-time series between the two schools, 15-7-1.

Miami and Notre Dame recently made national headlines when it was announced the two programs would share the American Football Coaches Association’s 2009 Academic Achievement Award, as both schools recorded a 100 percent graduation rate for members of its freshman football student-athlete class of 2002.

Frequently Asked QuestionsFeel free to contact us either by email or by phone, 1-800-842-1489, with any questions.

Are the seats together?Yes. Unless specifically noted in the Ticket Description, the seats are all together.

Are the seats obstructed? Will I need an ID to use the tickets? We will specifically identify any restrictions on the seats in the Ticket Description above.

Who is Big Red Tickets?Big Red Tickets is a small business operating from offices in Kansas City, Missouri – providing premium seating for any event nationwide. We have been in business for over seven years. Our specialty is providing ticket concierge service or consultant type service by establishing an ongoing relationship with our clients to provide them the best possible seats, to be delivered in the future, at a price our clients are comfortable paying today.

Why should I buy Ohio State Tickets from Big Red Tickets?Whether you place an order for in hand inventory or tickets that will be delivered later you can be assured that you will receive a very competitive price and great customer service. You can save significantly by placing an advance order with Big Red Tickets via our eBay auctions or eBay store listings, and with the advance order you have the power to choose the type of seats you want at a price you are comfortable paying – even if the event is sold-out and regardless of when the tickets are distributed. Our policy of providing comparable or better seating means that you always receive tickets at least as good as you order, and frequently the seats are upgraded at NO CHARGE and often substantially. Big Red Tickets charges no service fees and is competitively priced in comparison to other tickets you will see at the time you place your order.

What is the Upgrade Policy & how does Comparable or Better Seating work for me?When you purchase tickets that are not in hand (advance order) the advertised seat description sets the minimum parameter for the type of seats you will receive. Comparable or better seating is defined as: (a) tickets in a lower row of the same or equivalent section; (b) or tickets in a lower row in a section of the same stadium/arena level that is closer to the center of the stadium (i.e. mid court). Unless explicitly noted in either the advertised seat description or the seat description on the invoice, comparable or better seating is not affected by team affiliations and does not include a specific side of the stadium (i.e. team side) or a specific view of anything other than the playing field, (i.e. the band, scoreboards, video boards, or surroundings outside the stadium etc). If you absolutely require certain, unique seats in an exact location DO NOT bid on this auction; please contact us to discuss other options for in-hand inventory.

Why doesn’t Big Red Tickets always guarantee an exact seat location at the time of purchase? There are many possible reasons depending on the specific event: the tickets are not yet in-hand; exact seating locations may not yet be assigned by our vendors; the tickets may have been sold on another website and we know that they can be replaced with comparable or better tickets, the tickets may not yet have been distributed by the venue and acquired by Big Red Tickets; and finally as more tickets become available, we may simply acquire better seats. Regardless of the reason when we confirm an order with you you can be assured that you will receive tickets for the event that are at least as good, and many times better than what was advertised and negotiated at the time of the order.

How can I be sure Big Red Tickets will deliver my tickets? We understand that ordering tickets online requires trust.  We are big sports fans ourselves, and we understand the importance of these events in the lives of our clients. We are extremely proud of our business and plan on earning your business in the future by providing tickets that meet or exceed your expectations. Big Red Tickets has never failed to deliver tickets to a client with a confirmed order, ever. You don’t have to take our word for it simply take a moment and view what  thousands of people have said about the experience of doing business with us. As you can see the testimonials are overwhelming positive, and those few clients who left negatives all received tickets. The years of available data you have about us should give you a high level of confidence that you will have a similarly positive experience.

How will I get my tickets?Tickets that are marked “in hand” “ready to ship” etc will ship within 1-2 business days unless of course the event is closer and special delivery arrangements will be made. Advance order tickets will be delivered in time for the event. Our invoices include our best estimate of the delivery of the tickets. Every ticket we ship will ship via Federal Express, or we will make arrangements for you to pick up the tickets at our location near the venue. We know that many of our clients travel to the event. Consequently, we are experienced at coordinating delivery to clients with travel plans that take them away from home during the delivery period. Regardless of whether tickets are shipped by Federal Express or local pick-up is arranged we guarantee the arrival of the tickets in time for the event. In our seven years of business, we have never had a client miss an event because we shipped the tickets to a location they had already departed from. For a typical event, our procedure includes the following steps:

In the weeks leading up to the event we communicate with you via email to ensure we have the best contact information.
We will contact you by phone the day that we receive the tickets in order to confirm your ability to take a shipment at your billing address or will make other delivery arrangements as necessary.
We will not ship your tickets the week of the event without contacting you first.
If necessary local pick up at an office near the venue will be arranged. Your shipping charges will be refunded if we do not send your tickets via FedEx.

How does Big Red Tickets get tickets? We operate in the secondary ticket market. We have no affiliation or special relationship with primary ticketing agents such as Ticketmaster or individual ticket box offices. We do not buy any of our tickets from box office sources prior to the public sale of the tickets. While we buy some tickets through normal public sales, the vast majority of our tickets are purchased on the secondary market through networking with ticket brokers, season ticket holders, and private parties looking to sell their tickets.

When is my order complete & final? After you win the auction and pay for the order, Big Red Tickets will verify the inventory listing and email you an invoice. Please review the invoice for accuracy of price, seat location, contact information, shipping details and our terms and conditions. We ask that you sign and return the invoice. Once we have received your signed copy of the invoice then we have a contract in place for the delivery of tickets.

What determines the price of the tickets?Big Red Tickets operates on the secondary market for tickets – the price we set for tickets is determined primarily by prevailing market conditions based on supply and demand at the time of purchase. Because we have no affiliation or special relationship with primary ticketing agents such as TicketMaster or individual ticket box offices the concept of “face value” has no relevance in the pricing of our tickets. Ticket prices can fluctuate wildly even over the course of a few hours as the event date approaches. Sometimes prices go up; sometimes prices go down. Frequently, the market price will rise and fall at different points as the event approaches. The advantage of an advance order is that you get to lock in a price you are comfortable paying regardless of those fluctuations. Even if the price skyrockets between the time of purchase and the event, we will honor our contract with you – we will provide the tickets you ordered without asking you for more money. However, the converse is also true-if prices fall as the event approaches we expect our clients to honor our contract. We cannot offer refunds or cancellations in a market where the price is declining. The price you paid at the time of purchase reflects the value you placed on the tickets.

College Football Experience Counts

WAC 2010-2011 Football Previews: Miami Hurricanes

Coach: Randy Shannon
2009 Record: 9-4

Miami Gambling Odds from Sportsbook.com to win BCS: +2000

The shine has been off the apple of the Hurricanes’ football program in recent years. They seemed to be turning the corner in 2009, however, with the progression of young QB Jacory Harris.

Coach Randy Shannon is extremely adept at recruiting top local talent in south Florida at the fruits of his labors are manifest in a stacked defense and receiving corps.

‘The U’ has a nice balance of talented youth and veteran experience on both sides of the ball. Harris is back and should be one of the ACC’s best, matched only perhaps by rival Florida State’s Christian Ponder.

Depth is a concern if injuries plague Miami, but if it gets lucky the ’Canes have a great shot at winning the Coastal division.

Team Strengths:

Wide receiver is a position chock full of size, athleticism and pedigree. It should be a treat for Harris to throw the ball this season. Players like senior Leonard Hankerson and junior Aldarius Johnson are true to the lineage of stars like Michael Irvin, Reggie Wayne and Andre Johnson.

Junior Travis Benjamin adds a needed dose of speed. MLB Colin McCarthy, the leader of the defense, is also back as a senior. Sophomore DT Marcus Forston and safety Ray-Ray Armstrong were among the best in America at their positions coming out of high school.

Junior CB Brandon Harris is also a stud.

Team Weaknesses:

Left tackle Orlando Franklin and guard Joel Figueroa represent the only experience returning on the offensive line. The defense loses its ’09 leading tackler in linebacker Darryl Sharpton, and QB Harris must throw fewer picks (a 24-17 ratio last year).

The two leading RBs from last season are compromised; Javarris James from graduation and Graig Cooper from a knee injury.

2010-2011 Miami Football Prediction: 11-2

Miami has a really tough game Sept. 11 at Ohio State, but get Florida State and Virginia Tech at home. If Harris continues to improve and the offensive line gels, the Hurricanes will be a tough customer indeed. Expect the best season yet under Coach Shannon.

In terms of total ACC supremacy, though, Florida State and V-Tech also look menacing.

2010 Miami Hurricanes Predictions - Gambling Odds, Football Season ...

PANAMA CITY BEACH — From almost the day BP began hiring crews to patrol and clean the beaches and waters of Bay County there has been confusion, angst and complaints over the hiring process and duties assigned to workers.

Initial response teams were a hodgepodge of workers, but BP quickly made an agreement with Gov. Charlie Crist to employ a strictly Floridian work force and that transition was made during the third week of May, local BP spokeswoman Vani Rao said. Almost immediately there was an outcry for a narrower scope; Bay County people on Bay County beaches, Rao said.

“When we have these emergencies, and mostly it’s hurricanes and storms, we get a violent influx of people from other places and other states that feed off the money to be had as a result of the damage,” county commissioner Jerry Girvin said. “These people in Bay county are the ones that are suffering… they should be the first ones to have an opportunity for employment.”

Although it has been a gradual process to maintain the “operational integrity” of the clean up, the demands — from the public and the local government — to keep employment as local as possible have been heard, Rao said, and contractors have been told to move to a local workforce. But that has yielded consternation as well.

After work on July 14, Mark Fishbach, foreman of a crew for Lewis Environmental, said he and about 50 employees of the company were terminated without notice and told to vacate their hotel rooms by 6 p.m. Fishbach said he was part of a group out of St. Augustine and the men who were fired were from throughout Florida, including Orlando and Miami. Many of the workers had few options, if any, for returning home.

“Everyone was pretty much screwed,” he said.

Fishbach said he was told the company’s 90-day contract had expired and would not be renewed because oil had not appeared on Bay County beaches, meaning fewer people were needed and there was a drive for an all-local work force.

“We were the first crew here, bar none, and walked these beaches and now nobody will help us,” he said. “We came here to keep you safe and protect you all and now we’re getting the shaft.”

Rao said the local BP community outreach office has been inundated with similar stories, including one man who told her he used his last dollars on gas to drive up from Miami in search of work on the clean-up crews.

“We’re making one group of people very happy and one group of people very unhappy,” she said.

The clean up work is hot, uncomfortable and demanding labor, and county commission chairman Bill Dozier said he understands crews might not necessarily be filled by Bay County residents. In that case, he said, contractors should be turning to neighboring counties for manpower to keep the money in the area, but not until he stops getting calls from frustrated constituents who have tried to gain employment with BP and can’t.

David Russell of Gulf County said he has had similar problems in his county. He received his training during the second week in June and was told “we’ll call you when we need you.” A month later, he and friends he took the training with had not been called, but tags from Georgia and Alabama filled staging areas.

“How are some people getting chosen over others,” he asked.

Rao said specific hiring decisions are left to contractors and although BP can’t reach into a company’s personnel decisions they do “make (their) concerns known.”

Girvin and Dozier suggested they might not be making their concerns known loudly enough as constituents are still telling them on a regular basis they are working with out-of-area and even out-of-state people, even as the size of the labor force is shrinking.

About a month ago, Bay County had 4,000 BP workers, but over the last week or two that number has been scaled back to 1,000 to 1,200, Rao said. That number might scale back even further following Tropical Storm Bonnie. Operations have been scaled back in the wake of the storm and Rao said they would be re-escalated to the “appropriate level” after it passes.

“We had overstaffed because of the anticipated impact,” she said.

The Vessels of Opportunity (VOO) program has experienced similar problems.

Richard Morris, a commercial shrimper, said he has continually “fallen through the cracks” of the VOO program, although he sees recreational boats and out-of-state boats on the water all the time.

“This has been the most frustrating thing in my life trying to get into this VOO,” Morris told congressional candidate Marco Rubio during a roundtable discussion.

To correct some of the problems, Rao said the VOO program has been modified. Applications from recreational boat owners are no longer being accepted, and commercial vessels that were missed on the first go-around are being cycled in, but again, this means some will be cycled out as well.

A host of other complaints against contractors have circulated as well, including workers not receiving overtime and holiday pay, or not being paid at all, and hiring illegal immigrants over legal residents.

Rao said her office has heard the complaints and always takes as much information as possible and sends it up the chain of command. Although she said BP absolutely accepts responsibility for its contractors and the clean-up process as a whole, she did not identify a specific process by which claims against contractors are handled. Calls to the BP media line Friday also yielded no definitive answer.

One of the problems with handling such complaints is deciding if action needs to be taken on a local or regional level, Rao said, because many contractors have crews at multiple sites along the Gulf.

On May 20, Bay County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 19 illegal immigrants working for a BP contractor at Panama City Marina. Since then, unconfirmed reports of illegals working for contractors have continued to flow. When problems do come to light, Rao said BP immediately asks employers to show they did their due diligence in preventing the occurrence.

“Do people slip through, absolutely. Do we condone it, absolutely not. Our expectation is when it does happen it is handled immediately,” she said.

<a href="http://www.newsherald.com/news/staging-85636-continues-contractor.htmltag:news.google.com,2005:cluster=http://www.newsherald.com/news/staging-85636-continues-contractor.htmlSun, 25 Jul 2010 05:16:17 GMT 00:00">As BP reconsiders staging levels, contractor frustration continues
